Question by missymo_girl: What classes to take in high school to become a lawyer?
I’m in 8th grade and I will be going to high school next year. I plan to become a lawyer. I really want to be. I was wondering what I should take. I had to do my course classes today for 9th grade. I picked; English 1 (Going to ask if I can do English honors) , Algebra 1, Physical Science for a semester then Law studies, Debate, and Journalism. Majoring in 9th grade as Social studies or English? I picked social studies. PLEASE HELP!

It really doesn’t matter. Take the courses you need to get into college – English, history, math, science, and a language. You need a 4-year college degree to apply to law school; they won’t ask or care what you took in high school.

Question by teddy: How long would it take to become a lawyer?
I am a high school junior. I will be doing two years at a community college, then transfering to a university for two years, then law school. What is the quickest way i can graduate from law school with all the necessary courses. How long will i be in school after high school before i am a lawyer?(assuming i pass everything)

Best answer:

Answer by Kate
depending on what courses you take in high school (APs, etc.) you can try to graduate from college in three years with a pre-law degree. if you go as quickly as you can and work really hard you could pass the bar exam after 3 years in law school. That’s 12th grade, 3.5 years in college, and 3 in law= 6 or 7 years.

What is a good law firm that will take a client in New Jersey that handles Religious/Civil rights cases?

Question by Ajay B: What is a good law firm that will take a client in New Jersey that handles Religious/Civil rights cases?
Also, I am suing my school, will they make an arrangement with me that they get a portion of the settlement for their legal fees if I win, and I don’t pay anything if by the off-chance I don’t win?

Synopsis of my case:
The incident that occurred stems from a long history of the administrators at my High School unsuccessfully attempting to discipline me for lawful actions and words taken and used by myself regarding my political, and religious beliefs. Several weeks ago it came to my attention, through a trustworthy friend of mine that graduated last year, that a classmate of mine, much like many people here, was living a life that consisted primarily of excessive drinking, drug use, and promiscuity.

I was also told that this person claimed to be a conservative, and often falsely exclaimed to be one. I contacted them on one occasion out of school, after school hours, and on AOL instant messenger to confront them about this, and to try and reach out to them. After failing to do so, I elected to hope for the best for them, and to let the issue go. Soon after, the student took a chat log, and brought it to the school administrators, who took no action on it for 10 days as they unsuccessfully attempted to contact the police to charge me with a crime, of which I committed none.

They also publicly made statements during assemblies regarding a student handbook, without using my name, but the Principal stated something similar to that they were”working with the police about a student cyber-bullying another”, and in a different assembly, which someone told me about, one of the Vice Principals stated something along the lines of “not pushing your religious beliefs on others.” On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, the girl confronted me during home room in class with multiple witnesses present telling me that she “knew it was me”, and to “not message her again”, even though I had not made any attempt to contact her since, nor did I converse with her in person after the comment I made online.

On Friday, September 22, 2006, I was called down to the office. I waited for about 25 minutes as the Principal, and two Vice Principals discussed me in the Principals office. They called me into a conference room, and claimed that I had somehow gained this information of her claiming to be a conservative from a classroom exercise, and therefore they had the jurisdiction to issue a two day suspension comprising the next two school days, with readmittance after a parent conference. They also put down the official reason as “sexual harassment”, which they claim my online comment to be, despite the fact that there was no sexually harassing language involved. Also, despite the fact that I issued no threats whatsoever, and have no disciplinary record, they claimed that she was made to feel “uncomfortable and afraid.”

I am one of the more extreme cases of them violating constitutional rights. My rights to privacy, free speech, and religion have all been violated. There have also been other incidents where they feel they have the right to discipline other students about incidents that do not relate to school in any way, most prominently internet related ones. My goal is to get this illicit suspension removed from my record, and to establish a legal precedent where the fundamental legal rights guaranteed by the constitution as well as federal and state laws do not permit school administrators to wrongfully persecute students for exercising these rights.

Question by Curious1: Isn’t it unusual for a law firm to ask the attorney to take time because the firm is slow?
This is the first firm I have worked for a firm where this is happening. Business is slow so they are having two attorneys take their vacations (without them requesting it). I found it kind of odd. Any thoughts on this?

Not unusual at all. Makes good sense.

Question by Doss: How long does it take for a lawyer to meet up with a prosecutor?
My lawyer is taking for ever to call me back.. from meeting with him. i guess he has list of other stuff he has to do too.?
Its to speak to him about me driving and going to work? currently on house arrest

Best answer:

Answer by qareporting
The lawyer usually doesn’t meet up with the prosecutor until the day of trial right before your preliminary hearing. That’s how they do… and they won’t usually meet with you until then also at the courthouse. I don’t know why but that’s how it works. I work in the field. See it everyday.
