Would I have to pay for a lawyer under these circumstances?

Question by DonaldWrk: Would I have to pay for a lawyer under these circumstances?
I have received a default judgement on my small claims court case and would like to hire a lawyer to proceed with filing post judgement things. I would be willing to offer the lawyer at least half of what I’m owed and the amount is 00. Would a lawyer be willing to take that offer or would I have to pay money up front? Thanks.

You would have to ask the attorneys each one is different.

How would you tell your boss this?

July 19th, 2011 5 comments

Question by Lynn D: How would you tell your boss this?
I work in a law office (around 50 people) and my boss (the senior attorney) shares the same bathroom with me. Every time I go there smells like a “perfumed dead bear”, seriously, and I can not even breathe. The thing is that he is watching and even though we are good friends I don’t know how to tell him that the spray does not help it but makes it worse!

Answer by maxmom56
Why not just replace the spray with something decent? That way you avoid the chance at offending him.

Q&A: How long would it be acceptable to work as an intern?

July 15th, 2011 1 comment

Question by vipergracer: How long would it be acceptable to work as an intern?
I just started an unpaid internship to a law office and i’m working Mon-Fri from 9-4. The problem is that I want to start studying for the next LSAT in Oct and also want to get a job to start paying off my college loans. Not to mention that i’m losing quite a few bucks working as an intern. This is my second week and not too sure how long I have to stay so it would look good on my resume. Any suggestion?

Internships usually last for the entire summer. It certainly wouldn’t look good to quit any time soon.

Question by lkabrfan: What resources would a library for a small (2 attorneys) real estate/family law firm contain?
Assignment for the law library section of project:
An appropriate library for family and real estate law must be purchased, why and at what costs.

Narrative of materials and computer licenses purchased.
Cost to support law library.

Best answer:

Answer by trying2bhelpful
You need to put some work into this project.

For starters you would need at least one full copy of the code of laws for your state. A copy of the federal codes as well as state and federal tax codes would be useful. You would need innumerable reference books on both fields, and journals that update you on recent state and federal rulings in both fields.

You have a lot to look into…Good luck.

Starting salary would usually be around 150k for a large corporation. This will vary largely depending on geographic region though. 2 weeks vacation is norm, but whether you actually have time to take the vacation with all the work they give you is another question.

What would be the most professional way to terminate an employee who has only been workingfor me two weeks?

Question by a_cervantez05: What would be the most professional way to terminate an employee who has only been workingfor me two weeks?
Hired a young lady who interviewed great for the law office I work in. She has been with us two weeks and it is a diaster. She will not follow directions, she has a very smart mouth when anyone attempts to assist her, she is young but that is no excuse. She quit a job to take the one I offered her but it is terrible. I have been told to get rid of her but I am unsure how to go about it with her only being with us two weeks. help

I am very sorry but it is just not working out. I am going to have to let you go.

You don’t have to give her a reason. You can fire her for any reason and you have plenty. Just be polite and professional. If she opens up her smart mouth on you, have security escort her out of the building.

What would cause computer file folders to disappear?

June 26th, 2011 No comments

Question by jjem09: What would cause computer file folders to disappear?
I work in a law office. We’re on a network. There are a total of 5 people who use WordPerfect (yeah, I know, Neanderthal, but …). We have had three file folders just up and vanish over the past month. Office manager thinks somebody is intentionally deleting them. I disagree. What else could cause this?

Best answer:

Answer by Colanth
Office management is correct – computers aren’t self-aware enough yet to do things by themselves. Someone might be deleting them inadvertently (running some program that has a side-effect, intentional or otherwise, of deleting folders), but it has to be something someone is doing. Leaving the computer running for 100 years, untouched by human hands or Microsoft updates, wouldn’t delete a single byte, let alone whole folders. (Unless there’s a scheduled program that deletes folders – but someone would have had to set that up.)

he’s probably very disappointed in you, and cannot cope with dealing with your relapse, and caring for the pair of you.
